In the first half of 2002 light industry enterprises overcame the recession of industrial production, which lasted for over a year. Index of physical output in the industry in January-June amounted to 100.8%. At the same time in leather, footwear and fur industry production continued to decrease. As compared with the similar period of 2001 the output of artificial soft leather has grown, manufacture of hard and chrome leathers has reduced.
As of July, 1, 2002 cattle number in the republic equaled:
cattle - 1910 thousand heads (102.5% to July, 2001 г.), including cows 726 thousand (99.4%), pigs - 590 thousand (98.5%), sheep and goats - 857 thousand. (99.4%). At individual farms there is 53% of cattle, 45% of pigs, 93% of sheep and goats ( as of 1.07.2001 50%, 42% and 92% accordingly).
