In 2003 growth rate of Bashkortostan footwear and leather industry production amounted 15% as compared with the previous year. According to officials of Bashkortostan Ministry for Industry, the following enterprises contributed heavily in total industrial growth: Footwear factory "Davlekanovskaya", Oktyabrski leather-footwear plant, Sterlitamak Tannery, Ufa and Neftekamsk leather haberdashery factories. With the support of the Government of Bashkortostan Republic financial situation at Meleuz footwear factory "Bashkelme" is being gradually improved. Government officials expect that fulfillment of medium-term republican program of light industry development will consolidate success already achieved.
