Russian raw hides and finished leather market report. Moscow 4th August 2001

Despite approaching holidays in most European countries-importers of Russian raw hides, by the end of July decline in raw hides prices in the local market almost stopped. Russian exporters received new orders for shipments before the 10th of August when new higher export duties are scheduled to come into force. Pigskins prices are firm and the demand is stable.
One will note the dispersedness of below indicated prices. This is due to a slack season - fewer transactions, lower activities.
We expect that after introduction of new export duties from the 10th of August local market prices might drop at least further USD 0.15-0.25/kg.
Local finished leather traders note that finished leather market leaves mach to be desired.

All above quoted prices apply to uniform merchandise weighing 20 tons and more. Smaller lots may be bought at lower prices.
** CPT price also includes the cost of delivery and export duties. Usually 2-3% discount for salt and manure is offered. USD 1 = RUR 29.36
