Russian raw hides and finished leather market report. Moscow 1st December 2001

Demand for Russian raw hides from abroad remains very low. There is relatively good demand for cattle hides weighing 12-17 kg and calves while hides weighing more than 17 kg are not in demand. Traders are forced to sell hides to local tanning industry at lower prices. Terms of payment offered by tanners are also not as attractive as those of foreign customers. More wet-blue is produced for exportation. One can also note that home trade in wet-blue hides has considerably extended as compared with previous years.
Meanwhile kill figures have increased and more hides are available in the market. Usually in the second half of December activities slaw dawn. So we can hardly expect any good news until the beginning of next year.

** CPT price also includes the cost of delivery and export duties. Usually 2-3% discount for salt and manure is offered. USD 1 = RUR 29.93
