In During May we saw firmer market of raw cattle hides and lower supply. We also saw seasonal deterioration of quality which usually happens
in April and May. Meanwhile pigskins' prices went down considerably. It might be explained by seasonal decrease in demand for pig lining (local
pig lining producers are main buyers of pigskins in the local market). We do not expect any significant measures of Russian Government in the
nearest future concerning raw hides and leather markets. That is why we believe that further developments in the local market shall widely depend
on situation in world market.
There are no good news from finished leathers' market. Despite lower finished leathers prices, sales didn't increase. Russian footwear industry,
which is the main consumer of locally produced leathers, is in state of stagnation. Finished leathers suppliers from Belarus remain quite active
and hold considerable share of Russian market. We saw higher competition for market share between tanners, Russian and foreign traders. It looks
like nowadays imported leathers meet increased demand in Russian market, especially in sectors of high and medium quality leathers.
