In September demand for raw hides and skins in Russian market has increased. Meanwhile kill figures went up slightly and are still far from the maximum usually reached by the end of a year. Average price increase amounted 5-10%. Again we noted increased interest in bull hides.
Wet salted pigskins remain out of favour. We hope the situation will change until the end of this year.
Another Moscow based tannery (Moscow Heavy Leathers Tannery) was bought by an outside investor. Apparently leather production at this tannery will be ceased by the end of 2002. Now we may strike out Moscow region from the list of most important Russian regions where leather production is concentrated.
