Upward trend prevailing in September remained in force during October. We saw higher prices for wet-salted cattle hides weighing 12-17 kg,
bulls 17+ and somewhat higher demand for cowhides suitable for upholstery leathers production. We believe that increased demand from local tanning
industry have been the main factor influencing prices. We have been told by Russian exporters of wetblue hides that nowadays their business in
Italy leaves much to be desired. It may mean that Russian tanners are doing better in the finished leathers' market.
Anyway it doesn't apply to harness and saddlery leather business. Last month we saw considerable seasonal reduction of demand in this kind of
leathers.
No good news about pigskins yet.
